i'm moving & re-re-re-branding
hi friends... as you may or may not have noticed, i've been clumsily re-branding myself over the last half a year or so... it's been a re-branding flip flopping adventure. i mean i've always been "elaine ho" um because that's my name, but i've also been trying to get away from the name "roadkill". i chose to name my company "roadkill" oh about probably nearly a decade ago when i though it was a cute funny name, and dare i say whimsical, but i feel like i've outgrown the brand a bit. when you think of roadkill you think of dead stuff, skulls, blood & guts etc. and if you're one of my uncles, you think of dinner and some good venison.
the name "roadkill" was good when i was just making things with guns and skulls, murderous rabbits, "i love bacon" merchandise and killer deer, i mean i still really like dead stuff, but i like other stuff now too. i was a little bit sad to let go of the name, because i've worked really hard over many many years to develop the brand, and to get good SEO, but now i'm happy to be moving on. so i'm no longer "roadkill", and i'll be going by my name "elaine ho", so mom, please stop calling me "roadkill" on my voicemail.
unfortunately i'm not able to change my etsy shop name, so that'll stay the same for now. i would like to eventually move nearly 100 of my products into a new shop under my name, but i don't really feel like doing that right now...
oh so getting to the point of this post, my blog is moving over to mimumo.com. this blog will still be up, but all new posts will now be posted at mimumo.com, as well as archived posts, so come on over. same blog, new name. change is good. right?

now magazine + goldstuds
a little love for my goldstuds plaited leather necklace from now magazine! here's the on-line version... right now, this very second, i'm working on some new plaited necklaces for fall while listening to npr's most emailed stories and and i'm pretty excited about them. excited about the new necklaces, not the podcast, well the podcast is pretty good, but nothing to get too excited about. heh heh, they just said blue footed boobies. back to work!

all my friends are dead
this is a really lovely book. it probably would have been my favourite book as a kid. and there's 86 pages just like this. i can't wait to see how it ends. i used to love reading fairy tales because they always ended with the evil step mother being dragged behind a white horse inside a barrel full of nails. all my friends are dead is available on amazon for a mere $10. i so wish i had these when i was a kid. um, or now. you can make absolutely anything with these. it's a kit of 74 shapes that come with a drawstring bag. those square building blocks from my childhood are so last year, and they were probably coated in lead paint too. available at a+r store. places and spaces
my friend tristan breeuwer is having a photography exhibition at headquarters, and the vernissage is tonight from 6-11pm, but the show will be up all month. here's how tristan describes the show:
I am presenting my first solo photography exhibition “Places and Spaces”. The show presents various spaces and places, whether iconic Montreal architecture or unnoticed or forgotten urban landscapes, and attempts to present them in a “new light”. Some of the images are more representative of how a space is imagined or remembered, rather than how it is actually seen, while others are simply marked by the unique and unusual light falling on the scene. In either case, light plays a crucial role in each photograph. “Since light is the fundamental element in photography, the challenge I enjoy is to give light “presence” within a photograph. Most of the images in the show have succeeded in capturing this “presence”, making light itself their main subject…”
sounds good right? his photography is amazing, so come by if you can! it's at 1649 amherst, montreal.

look out.
i got to shoot a real gun for the first time this week. a really pretty antique .22 long gun. there are just some things you miss out on when you grow up in the city. shooting guns in the city is a whole other thing. (ie: murder.) i can't wait for target practice again because the next lesson will be bigger and better. SHOTGUNS!!!
